Gunmen believed to be kidnappers have killed the younger of two brothers who were abducted on
January 2 from their home along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, Edo State.
The father of the victims, Tahir Momoh, confirmed the death of his son, Abu Momoh, on Monday.
He explained that the body was found earlier that morning and was buried the same day in line with
Islamic traditions.
According to him, “It is true that he has been killed. He was the younger of the two brothers and has
already been buried. The elder brother is still in the custody of the kidnappers. This is a very painful
moment for us, and we are praying for the safe return of his older brother.”
A source disclosed that the deceased may have tried to escape before he was shot by the abductors. “I
was informed that he attempted to flee and was shot by the kidnappers,” the source said.
The older sibling, Ibrahim, who remains in captivity, is a medical doctor. He was kidnapped together
with his brother while they were trying to gain access to their residence and were taken into the bush.
Ibrahim is currently serving his housemanship at the Edo State Teaching Hospital, Auchi.
Reacting to the incident, a resident identified as Abdul appealed to the police to intensify security
operations in Igbira Camp. He noted that the frequency of kidnappings in the area is high, with several
cases going unreported.
He said, “It is time for the police to focus on the Igbira community in Auchi because kidnapping
incidents there are becoming worrisome. Many young men prefer quick money instead of working, and
these crimes must be stopped for the safety of Auchi and neighbouring communities. The government
also needs to step in so residents can feel valued and protected.”
