Flight operations at Benin Airport were grounded following a runway excursion involving an Enugu Air passenger plane.
All 63 passengers and five crew members aboard Flight 4264 from Lagos disembarked safely without any reported injuries.
The Embraer E170 aircraft overran the end of Runway 05 upon landing at approximately 3:10 p.m. and came to a stop in the nearby grass area.
Emergency responders arrived quickly to help all 68 passengers and crew exit the aircraft safely.
The temporary closure of the runway led other carriers, including Air Peace, to suspend flights to and from Benin Airport.
"We confirm that all passengers and crew have safely disembarked and there were no injuries or casualties. The aircraft has been secured, and the relevant aviation authorities have been notified." Enugu Air Statement
"Every runway excursion is a serious occurrence that deserves a thorough and independent investigation," said Captain Alex Badeh Jr., Director-General of the NSIB. "Our Go Team was on the ground within minutes of notification."
The NSIB has secured the aircraft and begun analyzing technical data, interviewing flight crew, and assessing runway conditions. The bureau announced that a preliminary investigation report will be released within 30 days.
