Gunmen Kill Local Government Official, Councillor in Zamfara Attack
Suspected bandits have reportedly killed the Director of Planning of Talata Mafara Local Government Area in Zamfara State alongside the councillor representing Jangebe Ward.
The victims were said to have been attacked while travelling along the Jangebe–Talata Mafara road. Sources within the area revealed that the incident occurred during a fresh wave of insecurity affecting parts of the state.
The attack has once again raised concerns among residents over the persistent security challenges facing communities and road users in Zamfara State, especially in areas frequently targeted by armed groups.
Local residents have called on security agencies and the government to strengthen surveillance and increase security presence along major roads to prevent further attacks and protect lives.
Security experts and community leaders have also urged authorities to improve intelligence gathering, deploy rapid-response patrol teams, and establish safer checkpoints in vulnerable communities. They further recommended closer collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups to help track criminal movements and respond quickly to emergencies.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities were yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
