The Lagos State Government has announced plans to divert traffic on Sunday, January 11, for the Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” Cycling Race, which will take place from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m..
In a statement released on Saturday, Mr. Oluwaseun
Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for
Transportation, provided full details of the traffic
management plan for the event, highlighting the
routes involved in the race.
The cycling event, which is being organized by the
Dynastar Sport and Education Foundation, will
cover two distinct routes. The 70km route will
begin at Eko Atlantic, following Ahmadu Bello
Way, Coastal Road, Okun-Ajah Community Road,
Ogombo Road, and Abraham Adesanya Junction,
continuing along the Lekki-Epe Expressway
before returning to Eko Atlantic. The 170km
route follows a similar path but extends further
to Sangotedo, Epe T-Junction, Ita Marun Junction,
Poka-Araga Road, Oke Osho Junction, and Temu
Road, before looping back to Eko Atlantic.
To ensure smooth operations, the Lagos State
Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in
partnership with other security agencies, will
monitor all roads, intersections, and junctions
along the race route to manage traffic and
prevent unauthorized access. Although traffic
will be partially restricted, authorities have
urged drivers to cooperate, exercise patience, and
adhere to official guidance during the event.
According to Osiyemi, these measures are
necessary to ensure the safety of both
participants and motorists.
The Lagos Gran Fondo “Eko 170” is designed to
boost sports tourism, promote healthy living, and
advance sustainable mobility in Lagos, as well as
showcase the city’s rich infrastructure, scenic
coastal beauty, and cultural vibrancy.
