Nasarawa Attack: Suspects Arrested as Manhunt Continues — Gov. Sule

        

       Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has confirmed that arrests have been made following the

 recent deadly attack on the Akunza-Ashige community in Lafia Local Government Area of the state.

The governor also assured residents that security agencies are still pursuing other suspects linked to the

 attack, stressing that all those responsible would be brought to justice.

Governor Sule made the disclosure during a bi-monthly press conference held in Lafia, the state capital,

 amid public outrage over the violent incident, which reportedly occurred during a traditional wedding

 ceremony.

          The attack, carried out by masked gunmen in the early hours of December 31, 2025, claimed the lives of

 three persons and left several others seriously injured. The incident sparked fear and tension within the

 community before security operatives intervened.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba,

 said the state government responded swiftly once information about the attack reached authorities.

“When news of the unfortunate incident reached the government, the governor immediately mobilised

 security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, to the scene,” Ahemba said.

According to him, security personnel quickly took control of the area, restored normalcy, and

 commenced investigations that led to the arrest of some suspects, while efforts are ongoing to track

 down others still at large.

Ahemba added that the state government has put measures in place to ensure lasting peace in Akunza-

Ashige and other parts of Nasarawa State, reiterating the administration’s commitment to protecting

 lives and property.

He also disclosed that Governor Sule is currently engaging in extensive consultations with political

 stakeholders across the state on key issues, including the zoning of the governorship seat ahead of

 future elections.

According to Ahemba, no final decision has been reached on whether the governorship should be zoned

 to the southern, northern, or western senatorial district.

“The governor is consulting, and stakeholders are also consulting in the overall interest of Nasarawa

 State,” he said, adding that the ruling party would announce its position at the appropriate time. DAILY
