The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the occurrence of an abduction incident in Kurmin Wali community, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following days of public concern and conflicting reports surrounding the incident.
In a statement shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Police said the situation initially
generated uncertainty after some individuals from the affected area disputed earlier reports during a
meeting of the Kaduna State Security Council, which was convened by the state governor at the
Government House in Kaduna.
The Force explained that comments earlier made by the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State
were aimed at preventing unnecessary panic while security agencies carried out thorough verification.
According to the Police, those remarks were not a denial of the incident but a cautious response
pending confirmation of details from the field, including the number and identities of those affected.
Subsequent checks by operational units and intelligence sources have now confirmed that the incident
did occur. In response, the Nigeria Police Force said it has activated coordinated security operations
in collaboration with other security agencies to locate and rescue the victims, while restoring calm to the
affected communities.
The development follows reports of a mass abduction of worshippers from churches in parts of
northern Kaduna, an incident that sparked widespread fear, outrage, and calls for urgent government
intervention.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the deployment of tactical units,
intelligence assets, and intensified patrols across Kajuru and neighbouring areas. Targeted search-and-
rescue operations are also underway as authorities work to secure the release of the abducted persons.
The Police have appealed to the public and the media to remain calm, avoid speculation, and rely on
official communications for verified information, noting that responsible reporting is critical to the
success of ongoing operations.
Security agencies have assured Nigerians that every necessary step is being taken to ensure the safe
return of the abducted victims, reinforcing the government’s commitment to protecting lives and
restoring confidence in affected communities. Source: Nigeria Police Force (official X handle)
