Popular social commentator and activist, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has expressed support for the decision of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in Oyo State to withdraw services over the recent abduction of teachers and students in the state.
The teachers' union directed public primary and secondary school teachers to stay away from work beginning Monday as concerns continue to grow over the safety of students and education workers following a series of security incidents in the affected area.
Reacting to the development, VDM described the action taken by the union as a necessary step aimed at drawing attention to the plight of the kidnapped victims and the growing insecurity affecting schools.
According to him, the situation requires urgent intervention from the relevant authorities to ensure the safe return of those abducted and to restore confidence in the safety of schools. He noted that if concrete measures are not taken to address the issue, more individuals and groups across the country may lend their voices to calls for improved security and protection for students and teachers.
VDM stressed that the welfare and safety of children should remain a top priority, urging the government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward rescuing the victims and preventing similar incidents in the future.
