FG Introduces Electric Buses and Sedans at Abuja International Airport

 

The Federal Government has introduced zero-emission electric transit services at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote the use of renewable energy within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The initiative, implemented by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in collaboration

 with Possible Electric Mobility and Zeut Energies, features the deployment of electric buses and

 electric sedans to support passenger movement and staff operations within the airport environment.

Speaking on the initiative, FAAN Board Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, commended President

 Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN,

 and the FAAN Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, for driving

 policies aimed at sustainable airport operations.

Officials noted that the adoption of electric vehicles at the airport aligns with global best practices in

 aviation sustainability and reflects Nigeria’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.

Mrs. Kuku highlighted that the electric transit programme is part of broader environmental reforms

 already underway across Nigeria’s airports. These include the installation of energy-efficient lighting

 systems, solar power solutions, and structured waste recycling programmes designed to improve

 efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

During the launch, FAAN officials conducted inspections of the newly introduced electric vehicles,

 assessing their operational readiness and suitability for daily airport use.

The deployment of electric buses and sedans is expected to enhance passenger comfort, reduce noise

 and air pollution, and lower long-term operational costs. For the wider public, the initiative represents a

 step towards cleaner transportation, improved public infrastructure, and alignment with international
