Adeleke Commends NULGE’s Return to Work, Praises Police for Maintaining Order

 

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has applauded the Osun chapter of the

 National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for its decision to

 return to work on January 5, describing the move as a responsible and people-

focused action that prioritises the welfare of residents at the grassroots.

In a statement released on Saturday, January 3, 2026, and signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale

 Rasheed, the governor said the union’s decision represents a significant boost to local governance and

 demonstrates maturity, accountability, and a genuine concern for public service delivery.

Governor Adeleke noted that the resumption of duties by local government workers would help restore

 essential services and strengthen social programmes across communities. According to him, the move

 reflects an understanding of the urgent needs of citizens and signals a renewed commitment to improving lives at the local level.

Emphasising the importance of local government administration, the governor described it as the closest

 and most effective tier of government for reaching the people. He said the decision by NULGE leaders

 to suspend industrial action and resume work showed confidence in dialogue, lawful processes, and

 responsible leadership.

The governor also commended the Nigeria Police Force for ensuring peace and stability during the

 period leading up to the workers’ return. He praised the Inspector General of Police, the Assistant

 Inspector General of Police for Zone 11, and the Osun State Commissioner of Police for deployin

g security personnel to safeguard council secretariats across the state.

According to Adeleke, the timely actions of the police prevented potential unrest and thwarted plans by

 some individuals to disrupt activities at local government offices. He added that the professionalism

 displayed by security agencies helped maintain calm and order, allowing workers to resume duties 

without fear or intimidation.

Reaffirming his administration’s stance on local government autonomy, the governor said the state

 government supports the federal initiative aimed at strengthening grassroots governance. However, he

 stressed that any reform must strictly follow constitutional provisions, due process, and the rule of law.

He further stated that democratically elected local government officials must be allowed to perform

 their constitutional roles without interference, noting that adherence to legal and administrative

 frameworks remains the guiding principle of his government.

Governor Adeleke concluded by welcoming the resumption of work by local government employees

 and commending security agencies for keeping the state peaceful. He said sustained development and

 effective governance can only be achieved in an environment of unity, stability, and respect for
