The Lagos State Police Command has activated a new CCTV Surveillance Centre aimed at strengthening security and improving crime prevention across Lagos Island and surrounding areas.
The surveillance facility, which became operational in mid-January 2026, enables real-time
monitoring of strategic locations, including the Third Mainland Bridge, nearby waterways, and other
key points within the island axis. According to the police, the system is designed to support
technology-driven policing and allow for quicker, intelligence-led responses to security threats.
The centre was constructed and fully equipped by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the
Ministry of Works, under the supervision of the Minister, Engr. Dave Umahi. It also functions as
Control Room 5 and is staffed by trained officers who operate the facility 24 hours a day.
As part of efforts to support operations linked to the surveillance centre, two operational vehicles were
recently handed over to the Lagos State Police Command to enhance mobility and response capacity.
The police have urged residents and visitors within Lagos Island and its environs to remain vigilant and
cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities. Members of the public
can reach the command through its emergency contact lines, which remain active at all times.
The activation of the CCTV centre aligns with broader efforts by authorities to integrate technology into
policing, particularly in high-traffic and economically significant areas of Lagos, where proactive
surveillance is seen as key to protecting lives and property. The update was shared by the Lagos State
