A credible military source has disclosed that intensified, intelligence-led airstrikes conducted under
ongoing counter-banditry operations have dismantled key bandit enclaves across Zamfara State and
neighbouring areas.
The source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday that the sustained aerial campaign by
the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has significantly disrupted bandits’ command structures and restricted
their freedom of movement across the North-West region.
According to him, recent precision airstrikes in Tsafe and Maru Local Government Areas successfully
neutralised several bandits and destroyed critical logistics, including weapons caches, supply routes and
hideouts.
He noted that the cumulative impact of the prolonged air operations has been overwhelming, leaving
bandit groups fragmented and severely weakened.
“Bandit networks have been degraded to the extent that they can no longer coordinate effective attacks,”
the source said.
The military source further revealed that credible intelligence reports indicate some bandit factions,
reeling from heavy losses, have begun openly calling for a suspension of air operations and appealing
for dialogue.
He described this development as a clear sign of desperation and a collapse in the criminals’ operational
confidence, adding that the sustained air campaign has shifted the balance decisively in favour of the
Armed Forces.
The source stressed that the ongoing offensive highlights the effectiveness of NAF’s air power in
supporting ground troops and reflects the Federal Government’s determination to deny criminal
elements safe havens.
He assured that security forces would maintain relentless pressure until banditry and other forms of
violent criminality are decisively curtailed and lasting peace restored in affected communities. Source:
