Wike: I’ll Resign as FCT Minister If Tinubu Loses Abuja, Rivers in 2027

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he will resign from office if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fails to win the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the statement on Wednesday while speaking with leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja.

The minister said his political performance in the FCT would be a major test of his continued relevance in the position. According to him, if he cannot secure support for the president in the territory where he currently works, he should not remain as FCT Minister.

Wike specifically said that if Tinubu loses both the FCT and Rivers State, he would announce his resignation on January 17, 2027, a day after the presidential election scheduled for January 16.

He also disclosed that political supporters in the FCT were working on a multi-party coalition ahead of the election. The coalition, he said, would support candidates for different elective positions while backing Tinubu's presidential bid.

Wike further expressed support for former FCT senator Philip Aduda for the Senate and mentioned two former Area Council chairmen who are being supported for seats in the House of Representatives.

The minister's comments come as political parties and politicians intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the FCT expected to remain an important political battleground.
