Two Suspected Ebola Cases in Adamawa Test Negative, NCDC Says

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that two suspected Ebola cases reported in Yola, Adamawa State, have tested negative following two rounds of laboratory testing.

The agency disclosed this in a press statement issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following reports of individuals presenting symptoms suggestive of Ebola disease.

According to the NCDC, the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre received the report in the early hours of October 30 after identifying two individuals with symptoms requiring further investigation.

The individuals were subsequently isolated, while appropriate public health measures were initiated. Samples were also collected and subjected to laboratory testing to determine the cause of the illness.

However, the NCDC confirmed that the samples tested negative for Ebola after two rounds of testing.

The agency commended the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and his team for their proactive response, assuring residents that it would continue providing technical support to strengthen the state's disease surveillance and response operations.

The NCDC further clarified that there is currently no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa State.

It added that the previously confirmed index case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remains the only confirmed Ebola case reported in Nigeria to date.

The agency urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information or speculation about the suspected cases.

It also advised members of the public to obtain information through official government and public health communication channels.

Meanwhile, the NCDC advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly following possible exposure, to seek immediate medical attention.

It also urged individuals to provide healthcare workers with relevant travel and contact histories and avoid self-medication.

The agency said it would continue working with the Adamawa State Government and other relevant stakeholders to monitor the situation and provide updates as verified information becomes available.
