Pastor Jerry Eze’s Church Responds After Single Mother Appeals Over ₦1.64m Transfer
The church associated with Pastor Jerry Eze has responded to a viral appeal by a Nigerian single mother who claimed she mistakenly transferred ₦1,640,200 to its account and appealed for the money to be returned.
The woman, who said she is a mother of two, had reportedly raised the matter through a video on TikTok, explaining that the substantial payment was made accidentally and was not intended as a church offering or donation.
Her appeal attracted attention online, with social media users awaiting a response from the church and discussing how mistaken bank transfers can be resolved.
Church says woman had not contacted them
In its response, the church said it had not received any direct complaint from the woman before her video was published.
According to the church, its direct-message platforms and official contact channels remain available to members of its community and are regularly used to receive and investigate reports involving erroneous transactions.
The church said it had not received a phone call, email, direct message or formal complaint from the woman concerning the ₦1.64 million transfer before the matter became public.
However, after becoming aware of the video, the church said its team immediately began efforts to contact her.
The church explained that it attempted to reach the woman through the telephone number displayed in the video as well as through direct messages.
Money reportedly refunded
The church has now confirmed that the matter has been resolved.
According to its statement, the woman eventually responded, allowing the church to begin the necessary verification and investigation into the transaction.
After confirming the circumstances surrounding the payment, the church said it reversed the transaction and returned the ₦1,640,200 to the woman.
The church stressed that its team remains available to address genuine concerns and said it is committed to handling such matters transparently and responsibly.
What the development means
The development brings an apparent resolution to the dispute, with the money reportedly returned to the woman after the church's investigation.
The incident also highlights the importance of promptly reporting mistaken transfers through both the receiving organisation and the relevant financial institution.
For large electronic payments, users are generally advised to carefully confirm account names and numbers before authorising a transaction. Where a transfer is made in error, keeping the transaction evidence and immediately contacting the bank can also help establish a clear record of the payment.
For now, the church says the ₦1.64 million has been successfully returned to the sender following verification of her claim.
